Why am I telling you this? To show you I have not suddenly become
concerned about peace and fulfillment in the world but have been working
on it and studying it for most of my adult life.
You might say this is a list of "I told you so's" but that is not
why I write it. When I ask myself, the
answer I arrive at, as I sit here typing, is that it is to help re-assure my
daughter who is now living away from home at university and truly disturbed by
the attacks on the USA and the likely responses. More than anything this is
dedicated to her - to let her know that her parents at least have been trying to
do something about world peace for years and years.
This is a "short-list" of things I have done or supported.

What I did or organisational things I supported
|
| 1973 |
Learned Transcendental Meditation
. |
| 1976 |
Became a teacher of Transcendental Meditation
and started giving introductory talks to the public. Each talk devoted
about a quarter of its time to the theme of World Peace - about 15
minutes. Here are my lecture notes for that part of the talk.
In 1975 it was discovered that only 1% of a population practising TM
brought the benefits of TM to the whole community - reduced stress and
negativity. As a teacher of Transcendental Meditation
became a follower of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. |
| 1977 |
Learned the TM-Sidhi techniques including Yogic Flying. It
was discovered that these have an even more powerful effect on the
environment than TM. Instead of 1% of the population only the square root
of 1% is needed now. So about 7,000 people practising the TM Sidhis
together would be enough to create coherence and harmony thereby reducing
stress, conflicts and all negativity - throughout the world. |
| 1978 |
Joined the World Peace project in Kent and worked on it for
one month. |
| 1978 |
Joined the World Peace project targeted at Lebanon and
spent three weeks in Syria. Ultimately it was found that this project,
along with several others covering the then hot spots of world turmoil
(Lebanon, Nicaragua, Iran, Zimbabwe, xxx) had been very successful. As the
numbers practising the TM Sidhi techniques together in the concerned areas
rose so the numbers of war fatalities and incidents decreased. |
| 1983 |
Joined the Maharishi European Sidhaland community in
Skelmersdale. |
| 1988 |
While still in Skelmersdale the project began to have an
effect on the surrounding area of Merseyside and over a five year
period the crime rate there fell dramatically compared to similar
conurbations throughout the country. |
| 1992 |
Joined the Natural Law Party and stood as a candidate for
Bow & Poplar in London. Part of the manifesto concerned defence thus:
"The Natural Law Party will create invincible defence. Through the
creation of coherence and harmony in world consciousness world peace is
stable, and no nation will threaten any other nation. ...Our Defence
policy will be to refrain from creating fear in the world. Our nation will
hold the balance of power in the world and prevent the birth of an enemy
for anyone through the ability to nourish every nation through Natural
Law". We showed evidence of our success. |
| 1997 |
Stood as Natural Law Party parliamentary candidate for
Crosby. Defence policy much the same. |
| 1999 |
Campaigned against the NATO bombing campaign in Yugoslavia.
The bombing campaign was aimed at liberating the Yugoslavian province of
Kosovo.
in May I wrote an open letter to the delegates at the international
conference for World Peace in The Hague. The Guardian refused to publish
it and I didn't have time to follow it up with other papers.
Stood as district council candidate in West Lancs proposing a
non-violent, proven alternative to the NATO bombing in Yugoslavia. Here is
part of our election leaflet.
Stood as Scottish Parliament candidate. During that campaign Mr Tony
Blair, the British Prime Minister made a public joke about our solutions
and the NATO bombing campaign at a press lunch in Scotland front of
several hundred stunned journalists. I wrote a mock interview as a
proposal for a Natural Law Party video. It was never made.
Stood as European Parliament candidate for the Natural Law Party -
defence policies as before. |
| 1999 |
My wife wrote to Mary Robinson, UN High Commissioner for
Human Rights, with detailed information about the research on the peace
creating abilities of Transcendental Meditation
and specific proposals on how to make use of it to enable the bombings to
stop and the situation to be resolved to everyone's satisfaction. |
| 1999 |
The Maharishi Global Development Fund placed adverts in the
world's financial press aimed at the seriously wealthy of all nations.
Take this example in the Wall Street Journal of April
22, 1999: "What is
happening in Yugoslavia can happen to any nation at any time. Can you
imagine if bombs began to fall on Washington, D.C., and to destroy the high-rises of the money markets of New
York? Will NATO be able to prevent this?
When this happens it will be beyond the power even of the wealthy to save the situation. .... A new
approach to creating peace is urgently needed,
one that prevents war. And if such an approach exists it must be tried." |
| 2000 |
I and my wife apply for
citizenship of the Global Country of World Peace which was founded in
October 2000 by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. The first ruler of that country,
Rajah Nader Ram, was crowned in October and proclaimed that the key
feature of his administration to establish perpetual peace on earth would
be "education to enable the whole brain to function properly and
people to live life in accord with Natural Law". You too
can do this - get your brain working properly and also join the Global
Country of World Peace! |
| 2001, 8-11
September |
H.E. Major-General
Singh, the Defence Minister of the Global Country of World Peace visits Washington
DC to talk specifically about defence and terrorism. |
