Talking about peace versus creating itAn open letter from William Hite to delegates at the international conference for World Peace in The Hague.You who would create peace in the world are in an unequal battle with those who would destroy it. You are even in an unequal battle with those who promote warfare as a route to peace. An unequal battle? yes, because those who advocate violence, whether for benign purposes or otherwise, can create a visible effect, without a doubt, plain for everyone to see. They just employ some laws of nature, say the laws of physics, to create a bomb or bullet or missile. Then you come along and talk about peace? Immediately you are at a real disadvantage. What you offer is the hope that kind words, agreements and mediators, diplomacy, politics, health, wealth and understanding will bring peace. Of course these things are necessary but only as the finishing touches to an actual state of peace. The truth is - if you want to be a real peacemaker then you must have arguments and tools as strong as the warmakers. That means you must have the demonstrated ability to make use of laws of nature as powerful as those of the warmakers. Not just to restrain physical violence but to avert its use before it arises - the true meaning of peace. Our party offers just this. We are a party with practical, proven solutions to problems arising from incoherent, warlike attitudes and behaviour. We have demonstrated the strength of our policies with more than a dozen carefully conducted scientific studies that have been published in leading academic journals, including the Journal of Conflict Resolution (edited at Yale University and usually considered the leading journal in the field of peace studies). These studies show that we do have access to laws of nature more powerful even than those of the bombers. In The Journal of Conflict Resolution (32, 776-812) we demonstrated significant changes in the conflicts in the Lebanon when our policies were implemented. Another study showed important reductions in the crime rate in Merseyside due to our policies. At least one national government has called us in to resolve a long-standing civil war. We were successful and the president of that now peaceful and democratic country publicly gives our party credit for this. The most powerful tool or policy of our party is the one most commonly misunderstood. But let me ask how many of the warmakers' tools are properly understood? How many of you have anything more than a child's understanding of how high-explosives work or how to make them? How many of you know how a laser-guided bomb really works? In the end you will have to agree with me that you do not understand the warmakers' technology and that you rely on the scientists. Yet despite all that science, how many of you have seen evidence that weapons bring lasting peace? Our party's most powerful tool for peace makes use of a law of nature that most people do not understand. Yet reputable, reliable scientists who have studied its effects are agreed that it does work. It works to create peace. It works without the warring factions even knowing it is being applied to them. Those scientists who have studied it in greatest depth do understand how it works. Yet mysteriously, you do not listen to those scientists whereas you will listen to the ones who can make high-explosives. Our tool for peace relies on a universal law of nature - that consciousness, the basis of all my thoughts, feelings and behaviour is an omnipresent field of life, finer than the finest, which permeates everything, including you. Yes, your subtlest level of consciousness is my subtlest level of consciousness and when I stir mine in a particular way using a very specific technique, it stirs yours. And when yours is stirred in this particular way it becomes more coherent, more harmonious, more able to support modes of thought and decision making which are in harmony with your neighbours and society. In short your negative behaviour diminishes and your positive behaviour and achievements increase. You become a better person because of what I have done. Wars, crime and anti-social behaviour fall away. Negativity falls away. Positivity increases. Seven thousand people doing this in a room together have been shown to bring this effect to the whole world. Three thousand in a room in Croatia will bring peace to the Balkans and Europe. It works within a few days. Our party is the Natural Law Party. I commend it to you. Be alert: the time for action is now. The house is on fire. NATO's action is creating fear in the hearts of everyone. What is happening in Yugoslavia today could happen to any country tomorrow. The world's media and journalists do not take our statements seriously. You and they refuse to look at the research and ask for serious, government level evaluations and implementations. You have unknowingly been conquered by the warmakers' culture. It is after all, very big business.
