16th September Tony Blair is the British Prime Minister Dear Prime Minister You say you are a Christian. Good. And you are against evil. Good. You are willing to pledge this country to "stand shoulder to shoulder with America to stamp out terrorism". Good - you are willing to put your money where your mouth is. But there is a problem: we know a lot about terrorism in this country with the Irish situation. We have put a lot of effort into it. But strong and brave as we are we have not solved the problem. Remarkably, even though your partial solution specifically involved negotiation with terrorists this does not seem to be an option in the present crisis. The only way to stop a massive escalation of violence and gross infringement of other countries' sovereignty is to find a non-violent way to bring peace to the world. You are probably as exasperated as most people with Tam Dalyell and George Galloway advocating non-violence and trying to give a historical perspective on the situation when they patently cannot offer specific workable solutions. We can and do. You can implement the policies we have recommended for bringing peace to the world. There is another problem: you are quite rightly working to support America but what are you doing to establish the UK's defences against the range of terrorist attacks that could be directed against us? Biological or chemical warfare for instance. We have solutions for all those - if you do not implement them you will be failing your country. See for example the adverts we placed in the leading defence industry publications. It will cost only a fraction of what you would otherwise have to spend on arms. And it will work. You are an intelligent person. You must know that even justified violence begets violence. For despite your rhetoric you must know that those who are the immediate cause of the present crisis most likely feel they have right on their side too. You could deliver the immediate expansion of the World Peace Fund to the critical mass needed to dissolve all the tensions in the world today. All the world would turn round and be your friend. The alternative is war and destruction of life which history shows us will only be the breeding ground of further strife. The world is on a knife edge. You are helping to make the choice. Love and life or destruction or death. Yours sincerely William Hite PS: I and many others have not forgotten the dreadful joke you made in April 1999 when you began your speech to a roomful of stunned journalists. You said: "I have just been told about the Natural Law Party's plans for solving the Kosovo crisis. I think I'll go out and order some more cruise missiles". I even wrote a little piece about it. |
