When you click on this link, depending on your Internet Explorer security settings, you may see a strongly worded warning message about the dangers of running "potentially malicious applications". You can choose to continue the download by choosing the "Open" or "Execute" options if you wish - it is perfectly safe to do so.

Alternatively, if you are concerned, or have a corporate policy to constrain you, then follow this procedure:

1. Choose the "save" option, in the warning dialog, to save the downloaded executable to your hard drive
2. run a virus checker on it or otherwise pass it through your corporate security process
3. when you are satisfied it is safe then execute the file you have downloaded and virus checked.

During this final stage you will need to be online as the installation process downloads further components from our web site as needed.

Our installation process pulls components from our web site to your computer. Your internet security features, such as Norton Internet Security, will detect this and might warn you that we are trying to access the internet. It will ask you for permission to proceed. It is quite safe to permit it to continue!

For your protection everything you download from our site in the UK is digitally signed. The download and install process checks that nothing has been altered on the way to your PC.

What you download and install is fully functional. It allows you five days to evaluate Search Favorites properly.

If you find Search Favorites is useful and you want to continue using it past the evaluation period then you need to register. Registration will not involve any further downloads.

Notes on installation

Microsoft Installer

We use Microsoft Windows' Installer Version 2 to install Search Favorites. If you do not already have this your Windows will be upgraded first, automatically, using the Microsoft supplied upgrade kit for your version of Windows.

We use it to make life easy for you. Windows Installer is part of Microsoft's low (zero!!) maintenance strategy - read about it here. It is built into Windows XP and 2000 and if you have installed any MS Office products you will also have it.

What else happens when you install?

Depending on the exact version of Windows that you have and what else has been installed on your PC the download may be anywhere between 1Mb and 4Mb. Most installations will be at the lower end. If you have a very early version of Windows 95 it may upgrade your copy of Windows to include Windows Scripting and HTML Help. It uses the Microsoft tools for doing that.
