If your reporting is
to be resilient and assist in your growth and
rapid business change it has to be well thought out.
At a recent client installation we devised an architecture
that both minimised load on the production agent support
databases and maximised flexibility.
Flexibility is particularly important in sites where the
configuration of Siebel is centralised: perhaps you are a UK
subsidiary and configuration is done in the US. In such cases
changes will be delivered to long term pre-planned schedules
that may not reflect the rapid changes in business priorities
in your particular subsidiary. In such situations an "off
Siebel" reporting architecture will allow your subsidiary
to tweak the definitions of Siebel fields, objects and
components without waiting for configuration changes to be
delivered.
The use of off Siebel databases for reporting also allows
the incorporation of non-Siebel data from say an ACD switch or
an email solution. This will enable the production of
integrated reports.
