Island I Vow, Loch Lomond

Taken from near the northern end of Loch Lomond, looking south. My favourite island. Visible for miles as you walk along the shore. (The island is the little blob near the middle of the photo!)

From the same position as the previous photo but looking back towards Inverarnan. This is the way I had just walked

Strathfillan

Walking towards the camp site at Auchtertyre.

The wooden wigwam at Auchtertyre

Yes, I stayed here, inside, one night!

The old A82 between Tyndrum and Bridge of Orchy

About to rejoin it from a mountainside track. This version of the A82 went out of service around 1930

Looking back towards Tyndrum

A wet day.

The old A82 going towards Bridge of Orchy

It is still wet!

How wet can I get?

Not much more than this as it happens

The river Allt Kinglass just past Auch

You cannot see the many brown cattle in the field on the other bank or hear them lowing to each other as they walked the opposite way to me.

The western end of Loch Tulla as approaching Inveroran

Those are tall pines, a long way away. Rannoch Moor, tomorrow's route, is the other side of the Loch.

The Inveroran Hotel

My destination, I hope! The hotel is the white blob surrounded by trees. In fact it turns out they don't have a bunkhouse so I have to camp a mile beyond it.

Loch Tulla again

From lower down the slope.

Loch Tulla again...

Even lower now.

Towards Rannoch Moor

Looking from my campsite

Rannoch Moor

Walking north. Rannoch Moor is the UK's largest uninhabited wilderness, around fifty square miles

Raining here, sunny there

Backpack and poles

22kg of backpack, two extra legs to help carry it thank goodness!

Sun and Rain on Rannoch Moor

Raining here, sunny there. Typical Scotland.

Kingshouse, Glencoe in sight

The distant valley is Glencoe from Rannoch Moor. The Kingshouse Hotel, my destination, is visible over two miles away at the far right in the middle. This was a fifty mile per hour wind day with gusts up to 70 mph. the rest of the walk was into the wind, and rain and with boots slowly filling with water.

Rannoch Moor, Kingshouse Hotel

It's a lot closer now! the white blob next to the trees under the mountain.
